Eyewitnesses said it was a miracle that nobody was inside the house when the collapse happened. According to neighbors, the tenants who were supposed to move in had not yet packed their things into the building. “If people were inside, we would have been counting dead bodies by now,” a resident said with relief.
The sudden collapse sent fear across the street as people rushed out of their homes to see thick dust rising into the air. Many described the sound as if an earthquake had hit. Heartbreaking: Man Chooses Side Chick Over Wife and 4 Kids, Wife Cries Out – Youths React in Shocking Way
Shortly after the incident, security officials and emergency responders arrived at the scene. The police wasted no time in arresting the civil engineer in charge of the project. Reports say he had ignored warnings about the weak foundation and the danger of building on a water-logged land.
Residents also accused him of using substandard materials to save money. “We have been warning that this place is swampy, but he did not listen. Now see what has happened,” another eyewitness said angrily.
Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) sealed off the area to stop people from going close to the wreckage, while investigations continue to uncover the full cause of the collapse. If you’re reading from phoenix click on “read original” to watch video involved.
