Clashes between the protesters and riot police escalated after the rally, resulting in dozens of arrests. Authorities in the country accused some university students of plotting attacks against national institutions and charged nearly 40 individuals with crimes ranging from inciting violence to threatening the constitutional order.

Critics within Serbia and abroad have accused Vučić of increasingly authoritarian rule, citing suppression of civil liberties, tolerance of corruption, and ties to organized crime—allegations he denies. While Serbia is officially pursuing European Union membership, the current government continues to deepen its strategic alliances with Russia and China.
