President Bola Tinubu has once again demonstrated his commitment to youth empowerment and sports development by honouring Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, following their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
At a special presidential reception, President Bola Tinubu conferred the national title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-member technical crew. In addition, he announced that each player and official would receive a three-bedroom apartment under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, and a cash gift of the naira equivalent of $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
“You have inspired millions across the nation, especially young girls who now see that their dreams are valid,” president Tinubu said during the event. “You have ignited hope, and we will continue to support you and generations to come.”
He shared the emotional experience of watching the final match, admitting that the Super Falcons’ performance rekindled national pride and unity. “Your victory is more than just a trophy. It symbolizes courage, resilience, and national unity,” President Bola Tinubu added.
In a show of solidarity, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also pledged N10 million to each team member. This gesture, President Tinubu noted, was a demonstration of national appreciation for the team’s achievements.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development, pledging increased investment in women’s football and youth programs nationwide. “This is the era of Renewed Hope, and your victory is a symbol of that hope,” he declared.
