Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Kayode Adewumi, has passed away in Toronto, Canada, following a long battle with illness.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his family through an Instagram announcement on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The statement read:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada.
KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning.”
Kayode Adewumi was celebrated not only for his creative brilliance as a film director, actor, and producer, but also for his compassionate spirit. His family described him as a loving son, husband, father, brother, and friend whose warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Throughout his career, Kayode Adewumi made significant contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry. He rose to fame with the creation of the popular sitcom Flatmates in 2004 and later served as the executive producer of its spin-off, My Flatmates.
His journey in the arts began with Theatre 15 at the University of Lagos before he transitioned to television, where he worked on widely watched shows such as Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco
and Company.
