Israel has escalated its military operations in Gaza as ceasefire negotiations gain momentum with mediation from Qatar and Egypt. While talks are ongoing, no date has been finalized for a new round of truce discussions.
Israeli officials maintain that the war will only end when Hamas is fully disarmed and dismantled—conditions Hamas continues to reject. The militant group insists that any progress toward peace requires Israel to end the war and fully withdraw from Gaza.
The conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched a deadly attack inside Israel, killing 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and taking 251 hostages. It marked Israel’s deadliest single day in its history.

In response, Israel launched a sweeping military campaign across Gaza. Currently, over 80% of Gaza’s territory is under Israeli military control or subject to displacement orders, according to United Nations data. As Israel pushes ahead with its military objectives, the international community watches closely for signs of a diplomatic breakthrough.
