It was a shocking scene after a NEPA (PHED) staff member was reportedly beaten into a coma by a group of angry youths in a local community.

The incident happened around Rumuokoro axis, according to eyewitnesses.

Residents say the NEPA worker, known by his colleagues as Mr. Sunday, had been assigned to disconnect electricity in the area due to outstanding bills. But the situation quickly turned violent.

What Eyewitnesses Said:

A shop owner, Madam Tina, explained:

“We have been in darkness for three days. People were angry already. When they saw the NEPA man, tempers went high. Another resident added that the worker kept insisting he was only following orders, but the neighborhood refused to listen.

Police Intervention

Reports say the police arrived minutes later and rushed Mr. Sunday to a nearby hospital. He was unconscious when officers picked him up.

Security officials say they are already investigating the attack and searching for the people involved. They also warned residents that attacking government workers is a crime that can lead to jail time.

PHED Responds

In a brief statement, PHED management condemned the attack, saying:

“Our staff are only doing their jobs. We urge residents to channel complaints through the right offices.”
