Atiku Abubakar has firmly dismissed claims that he is under pressure to step down for any presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that no such discussions have ever taken place.
The former Vice President made the clarification in response to widespread rumors suggesting he was being pressured to concede candidacy to a southern aspirant. Atiku Abubakar emphasized that he had never attended any meeting where such demands were made and labeled the report as a “phantom narrative” orchestrated by the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
In a strongly worded statement issued through his media team, Atiku Abubakar refuted the claim as “a malicious fabrication,” accusing the ruling APC of manufacturing the story to destabilize the growing unity within the opposition coalition.
“There was no such meeting. Atiku Abubakar was never in attendance. The entire story is a malicious fabrication — pure fiction cooked up in the propaganda kitchens of the Tinubu-led APC regime,” the statement read.
Atiku Abubakar described the reports as false, desperate, and laughable, asserting that they were a clear attempt by a struggling government to create division within the opposition and derail the momentum behind the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition’s political platform.

Reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria’s democratic future, Atiku Abubakar declared that no amount of propaganda, faceless briefings, or planted stories would shake the coalition’s determination.

“We are united, focused, and determined to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of this rudderless government,” he said.
Atiku Abubakar also stated that Nigerians have embraced the ADC as the most credible and viable alternative ahead of 2027, adding that the support the party continues to receive nationwide is a clear sign that the current administration’s days are numbered.
He urged the public and media to disregard the unsubstantiated report, stressing, “It bears no attribution, credibility, or truth.”
