Faunter emphasized that APC’s NEC—the party’s highest decision-making body—must ratify key decisions moving forward, including endorsing the Acting National Chairman and possibly nominating a new leader.

“A notice for the NEC meeting has already been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” Faunter stated.

He also revealed that the party NWC discussed preparations for upcoming bye-elections in constituencies affected by legislative vacancies and began early planning for the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, with specific dates to be announced later.

During the upcoming NEC meeting, the party will deliberate on strategic issues including leadership succession, internal party restructuring, and plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following Ganduje’s resignation, Alhaji Ali Dalori, former party Deputy National Chairman (North-East), has stepped in as Acting National Chairman. He pledged to run the party transparently and inclusively, with a focus on unity.

Dalori’s appointment was in line with the party’s constitution and the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who instructed him to take over the party leadership.

In his resignation letter submitted through National Secretary Sen. Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje said he needed time to focus on his health and personal matters. He had assumed the party leadership role in August 2023 after serving two terms as Kano State Governor.

The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to be a turning point for APC’s internal governance and its strategic direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.
