 Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has acknowledged that he is currently consulting widely on a potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2026 governorship election. While speculation continues to link Adeleke with a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor has not made a final decision.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke confirmed that he met with the PDP leadership caucus at the Government House Banquet Hall to deliberate on his future political path. The meeting included his deputy, cabinet members, Special Advisers, and both federal and state lawmakers.
During the session, the PDP leadership in Osun unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the governor, pledging to support him regardless of whichever political platform he chooses next.
Rasheed stated, “The Osun PDP leadership caucus has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing unanimous support for any decision he takes concerning the ongoing defection rumours. The governor was applauded for his impactful governance and was urged to continue engaging stakeholders at both local and national levels.”
The meeting brought together key stakeholders including members of the National and State Assemblies, the State Executive Council, Special Advisers’ Forum, the party’s elders caucus, and the ALGON state chapter.

After a detailed briefing by Adeleke and a robust discussion, the caucus issued a communiqué affirming their readiness to follow Adeleke should he decide to move to another party. However, they acknowledged that the governor is still in the process of consulting widely before making any conclusive decision.

Present at the meeting were Governor Ademola Adeleke, Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi, Hon. Bamidele Sallam, Hon. Clement Olohunwa, Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, High Chief (Mrs.) Modupeola Adeleke, South West PDP Vice Chairman Engr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe, and Osun PDP Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi.
Also in attendance were House Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Ireyode Oyewusi, Secretary to the State Government Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of Staff Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Oluwole Alabi, and several other high-ranking party leaders and advisers.
