The Nigeria Police Force has finally confirmed that many worshippers were abducted during a church attack in Kaduna State, after earlier denying the incident. The attack happened in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area, where gunmen invaded churches during Sunday services.
According to reports, the attackers stormed several churches at the same time and kidnapped over 160 worshippers, including men, women, and children. Some victims were able to escape, while many others were taken into nearby forests by the gunmen.
After the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command initially said the reports were false. This denial caused anger and confusion among church leaders and community members who insisted the abductions truly happened. Following further checks and pressure, the police later admitted that the kidnappings did occur.
The police said security forces have now been deployed to the area and efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted worshippers. Religious leaders and residents have called on the government to improve security and protect worship centres, especially in rural communities.
The incident has once again raised concerns about insecurity in northern Nigeria, as families of the victims continue to wait and hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
