A Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has postponed the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the fatal accident that killed two close aides of British boxing star Anthony Joshua. The court has fixed the next hearing for February 25, 2026.
The adjournment followed a request by the prosecution, which asked for more time to duplicate the case file and send it to the Ogun State Attorney-General’s office for legal advice.
Kayode, who is 46 years old, is facing four charges. These include dangerous driving causing death, reckless driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence. The court granted him bail of ₦5 million, with two sureties, pending the next court date.
The accident happened on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Reports say the Lexus SUV driven by Kayode crashed into a stationary truck. Anthony Joshua and the driver suffered minor injuries, while Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, lost their lives.
The incident attracted wide attention in Nigeria and abroad, raising fresh concerns about road safety and traffic enforcement. Many Nigerians have called for accountability, especially in cases involving high-profile individuals.
Authorities say due legal process must be followed to ensure justice for the victims and their families. The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has also come under renewed focus, as it is known for frequent and deadly accidents.
As the country awaits the February 25 hearing, many believe the case could help strengthen road safety laws and discourage reckless driving across Nigeria.
