The victim, Mrs. Blessing, was said to be six months pregnant. Eyewitnesses told our reporter that it all started as a simple quarrel in their compound before it suddenly turned bloody.
According to a neighbour, Mr. Chinedu, the couple had been arguing for days over family issues. “On that very morning, we first heard shouting, then we heard blessing crying for help. Before anyone could reach her, her husband, Mr. Samuel Eze, had already pounced on her. He beat her with his fists and even kicked her in the stomach,” he said with tears. Another resident, Madam Okoro, who rushed to the scene, explained that by the time people tried to stop him, Joy was already lying lifeless on the ground. “We begged him to stop, but anger had taken over him. When she collapsed, everybody started screaming,” she added.
The woman was quickly rushed to a nearby health centre, but doctors confirmed she was dead on arrival, together with her unborn child.
The matter has since drawn anger and sorrow in the neighborhood. Some villagers said the man should never be forgiven for such a heartless act, while others blamed the lack of quick police response in rural areas.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Samuel has been arrested and is currently in police custody. The heartbreaking video of the incident, recorded by one of the neighbours, has been circulating online, leaving many shocked and furious.
