South Africa Tops Entry List for African Youth Athletics Championships
South Africa is set to make a bold statement at the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18 and U-20 Championships, leading the pack with the highest number of entries just three weeks before the event kicks off. As the defending champions, South Africa has submitted an impressive 100 entries — featuring 42 male and 40 female athletes — along with 18 officials who will accompany the delegation to Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, where the championships will take place from July 16 to 20 at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
South Africa’s strong presence underscores its continued dominance and commitment to youth athletics on the continent. Following behind are Algeria with 65 entries (30 male, 19 female athletes, and 16 officials), Egypt with 57 entries (21 male, 20 female athletes, 16 officials), Zimbabwe with 50 entries, and Morocco close behind with 49.

Several other African nations, including Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, Congo, Namibia, Djibouti, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Seychelles, Guinea, South Sudan, Libya, Cameroon, Gabon, Mauritius, and Senegal, have also confirmed participation with entries ranging between 37 and five. Eswatini, Somalia, Niger, Cape Verde, Malawi, Lesotho, Comoros, and Angola have likewise submitted their entries.
